Roy Dean Hughes, age 77, of Blue Ridge, passed away Sunday, February 13, 2022, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta after a brief illness.

He was a member and a deacon of Temple Baptist Church. Roy was born November 16, 1944, in Cobb County, Georgia, to Roy E. Hughes and Claudine Holmes Hughes.

Roy proudly served his country with four years in the U.S. Army as an E-5 in the Army Security Agency.  Roy and his wife, Maeola, spent three of these years in Germany.

He retired from the Tennessee Chemical Company in Copperhill after working over thirty years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Hilton Delane Hughes. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Maeola Stepp Hughes; daughter, Julie Elizabeth Panter (William Lynn); son, Roy Clinton Hughes (Julie Mealer); grandchildren, Hannah Elizabeth Lasley McAvoy (Jacob), Joshua Tyler Lasley (Lauren Hensley), Matthew McKinney Lasley (Hannah Davis), Abigail Rose Hughes, Annelise Noel Hughes, Sandi Nicole Panter Curtis (Jon) and Will Panter. Roy was also blessed to have six great-grandchildren, Lainey Lasley, Tyler Lasley, Liam Lasley, Katie Mae Curtis, Colin Curtis and Peyton Curtis; his brother, Milton Eugene Hughes (Kim Buck); and sister Glenda Ruth Queen.

He dearly loved his family and his church family.  His very favorite thing was to have everyone come to the house for a cookout, birthday party or holiday meal. What a blessed family we have been!

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at 2 p.m. at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the  Rev. Dr. Roger Beck and Rev. Dr. Chan Mitchell officiating. Music was provided by Greg Norton and Jeanette Rismiller. Interment followed in the Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery.   The North Georgia Honor Guard will present Military Honors.  Pallbearers were Milton  Hughes, Matthew Lasley, Jacob McAvoy, John Curtis, Will Panter and Charles Stepp. Honorary pallbearers were Gus Vasquez, Joshua Lasley, Andy Lakhani and the Deacons of Temple Baptist Church.

The family received friends at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home, of Blue Ridge, Wednesday, February 16, 2022, from noon until 2 p.m.
