Robert W. Orton, 78, passed peacefully surrounded by his family, August 9, 2022, at Manor Lake Independent Living in Ellijay.

He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Mary Orton, and sister, Nancy Orton.

Born in Plainfield, New Jersey, and a 1961 graduate of  Vero Beach (Florida) High School, Bob spent most of his life in Vero. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and he proudly served in the Florida National Guard. He enjoyed his association with the Vero Beach Dodgers as a season ticket ambassador.

He was affiliated with the Masonic Order for more than fifty years, active in the Amara Shrine Temple and a member of the Ft. Pierce Shrine Club’s Clown Unit.

Following retirement, he and Roberta Jo moved to Fannin County, Georgia.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Roberta Jo Orton; daughters Amy Jo (Bill) Bentz and Mary Leslie Rodgers; and grandson, Robert Austin Rodgers.

A private memorial to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.
