Marvin Queen, age 71, of McCaysville, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at his home.

He was born in McCaysville, May 29, 1950, to the late Robert Lee Queen and Annie Waters Queen.

Marvin retired from the Tennessee Chemical Company, where he worked as a miner for many years.

Later, he worked as a Deputy for Fannin County Sheriff’s Office and for the McCaysville Police Department.

He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt, fish, camp, and just enjoyed the mountains.

He is preceded in death by his parents; stepdaughter, Tonia Simpson; and brother, Ray Waters.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Evelyn Queen; children, Angelica (Andy) Lakhani and Roy Lee (Laura) Queen; grandchild, Chase (Meredith) Lakhani; great-grandchild, Lily Lakhani; stepchildren, Tammy Abercrombie, Darren Self and Melissa Self; nephew, Daniel Waters, and his wife, Kassandra Waters, and their children, Abigail and Patterson Waters; and several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was conducted Friday, April 8, 2022, at 2 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Clinton Hughes officiating.

Honors were presented by the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Honor Guard.

Honorary pallbearers were the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Department, Fannin County Sheriff’s Department and the McCaysville Police Department.

The family specially requests any floral tributes be able to be transplanted outdoors.
