Mrs. Billie Sue Vest, age 76, of Morganton, passed away January 16, 2022, in the Fannin Regional Hospital.

She was born in Cherokee County, North Carolina, to the late Samuel Garland and Lona King McHan. She retired from Levi Strauss after 40 years of service. She was a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Mineral Bluff. She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Vest also enjoyed going to town and visiting others. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank Edward Vest; nine siblings; and a son-in-law, Troy Wingard.

Survivors include her three children, Sandra Wingard of Morganton, Edward and Lisa Vest of Copperhill and Rhonda and Scott McDonald of Cherokee, Alabama; grandchildren, Caitlin McDonald, Kayla Nazerian, Anthony Wingard, Austin Vest, Michael Wingard and Abby Vest; great-grandchildren, Maggie Nazerian, Millie Nazerian, Pasley McDonald, Porter McDonald and Max Nazerian; brother, Frank McHan of Louisiana; and one sister, Mary Raper of Murphy, North Carolina; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at 1 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Matthew McDaniel officiating. Music was provided by Jonathan Hoyle.

Interment followed in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery in Murphy with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Michael Wingard, Anthony Wingard, Catlin McDonald, Jerry Raper, Jeff Raper and Mark Raper.
