Kaylor scores 21 in Gordon Lee win
The Fannin County Rebels basketball team defeated Gordon Lee, 72-45, Saturday, February 7, as Kolton Kaylor scored 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.
Trailing 9-7, the Rebels went on a 14-point run to take the lead and go on to a 26-20 lead at halftime before closing out the victory.
The fourth quarter was the best for Fannin County as they outscored Gordon Lee 27-15.
The Rebels controlled the paint, grabbing 45 rebounds. Keaton Watkins led the team with 15 rebounds.
Fannin County passed the ball well with 13 assists on 27 made baskets. The Rebels also swiped 12 steals in the game. Kaylor led the team with five steals.
Contributing for the Rebels were Kaylor with 21 points, Kolby Kaylor adding nine points, Matthew Ponton, Tyler Blake, and Brody Henson each putting in eight points, Avrey Angel scoring six points, Watkins putting up four points, Kylan Dover and Cannon Holloway with three points each and Hudson York adding two points.
This latest victory left the Rebels with a 21-2 season worksheet and 11-1 region mark in A D1 Region 7. They trail Christian Heritage who lead the region with a 7-0 record. The two teams meet for the second time Friday night on Christian Heritage’s home court.
Region foe Coosa falls 72-42
The Fannin County Rebels rolled past Coosa, 72-42 as Kolton Kaylor scored 25 points.
Hosting Coosa in the Wednesday night matchup and leading 11-9, the Rebels went on a seven-point run to pull further away and got out to 34-22. This margin held at halftime before the Rebels again outscored their visitors in the third quarter on their way to the region win.
The Rebels had four assists in the third quarter as they outscored Coosa 24-14.
Matthew Ponton and Kaylor each hit multiple three-pointers as the team shot nearly 50% from beyond the arc. Fannin County played well in the paint, collecting 28 rebounds and blocking four shots. Keaton Watkins led the team with seven rebounds.
The Rebels also passed the ball well with 12 assists on 27 made baskets.
Contributing for Fannin County were Kaylor with 25 points, Brody Henson scoring 13 points, Ponton adding nine points, Tyler Blake putting up eight points, Hudson York with seven, Avrey Angel scoring six points and Cash Lambert and Watkins scoring two points each.
