Lady Cougars dominate CSLA

The contest between the Copper Basin’s girls basketball team and Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts (CSLA) was a close one early, then a complete Lady Cougar domination followed, which led to an 84-23 Basin win at home January 14.

The game was competitve early. A shot apiece from Cora Kimsey, Alexis Hyatt and Kloie Ballew made them 6-0 at 5:04 left in the first quarter. CSLA got on the board next with five points to cut the lead to one, 6-5, at 4:20 left. Kendra Deal hit the next two baskets for four points to give Basin the lead 10-5. 

CSLA was next with two baskets and four points to make the score 10-9 at 1:02 remaining in the first quarter regulation. Kimsey scored four more points and Hyatt scored two more points to give Basin the lead 16-9 at the buzzer.

Then, the game changed. The Lady Cougars put on a dominating performance in the second quarter by outscoring CSLA 29-1 to lead 45-10 at halftime. 

Basin outscored CSLA 16-0 through the first five and a half minutes of the second quarter. The only score for CSLA was a free throw at 2:23 left in the first half. 

For Basin, Kimsey scored 10 points in the second quarter while Deal scored eight, Ballew scored six and Hyatt scored three.

The third quarter was the same domination. Basin held CSLA to six points in the quarter. Basin led 57-12 at the 5:03 mark under the offensive skills of Deal (three points), Kimsey (two points), Hyatt (five points) and Ballew (two points) before CSLA’s three points. Kimsey and Hyatt each scored eight more points, and Ballew scored two points in the remaining minutes to give the Lady Cougars the lead 75-16 at the third quarter buzzer.

Madden Beach came off the bench and scored seven points in the Basin fourth quarter. Her consistency was on display the entire quarter. Riley Aken got on the scoreboard with a two-point basket late in the game to seal the deal.

For the game, Kimsey had 28 points and was 4-for-5 from the free throw line. Hyatt finished with 20 points and was 2-for-3 from the line. Deal finished with 15 points and Ballew finished with 12. Beach had seven total points including hitting a free-throw.
