Mrs. Peggy Jean Buchanan Stewart, age 79, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2019, in the Hayesville House Memory Care in Hayesville, North Carolina. She was surrounded by her family and friends. Alma, her family by love, was playing a video of Peggy and Ellen Rogers singing when she passed away.
Peggy was born April 21, 1940, in Cherry Log, to the late Gene and Ruth Davenport Buchanan. For 23 years she worked for the United States Forest Service as a secretary where she retired. She was a member of Damascus Baptist Church and South Houston Chapter #915 Order of Eastern Star. Peggy Jean was a resident of Cameron Hall for six years before moving to the Hayesville House.
Mrs. Stewart was also preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Carl Max Stewart; and one daughter, Cynthia Faith Parks.
Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Tommy Grindstaff; niece, Roseann Tuttle; nephew, David Grindstaff; great nieces and nephew, Jill and Keith Karlsen, Charitty Tuttle and Benjamin Tuttle; family by love, Tommy and Alma Rogers Callihan and Joey and Joy Rogers; and dear friends, Blaine and Ruth McGonigal.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 14, 2019, from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Ray Queen officiating. Music was provided by Edgar Land.
Interment followed in the Chastain Memorial Park Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: David Grindstaff, Benjamin Tuttle, Drue Callihan, Joey Rogers, George Ensley and Drew Anderson.
