John Terry Chambers went to heaven Tuesday, November 27, 2018, following an extended illness.
Terry was born September 15, 1941, in Bill Arp, Georgia, son of the late John Thomas Chambers and Nell Moncrief Chambers. Terry lived all his life in Jacksonville, Florida, until he moved to Blue Ridge, Georgia, in 2004 with his sisters, Becky Chambers Walls and Mary Chambers Braddy. Terry grew up in a close loving family surrounded by nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins with whom he loved to spend time.
Terry was a great organizer. He had his own workshop and routines for collecting and taking apart small appliances. You knew you were special if he gave you a jar of nuts, bolts and screws. He loved picture books and collected Avon cars, trucks, and trains. Terry continued to work on his scrapbooks and enjoyed gospel, blue grass and Christmas music. Some of his favorites were “Swing low, Sweet Chariot,” “Little Drummer Boy” and “Rudolph, the Red Nose Reindeer.”
Terry lived at Union County Nursing Home from April, 2012, until his passing. He was well cared for by the staff and was very fond of them. He will be remembered for teasing, “Have you been picked on today?” and passing out hugs and peppermints.
A private memorial service will be held by the family.
