Jeffery Douglas Wheeler, age 61, of Blairsville, passed away December 24, 2018, in the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia. Born in Young Harris, Georgia, he was the son of the late Richard H. and Esther Mae Rhodes Wheeler. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Jeffery worked as a carpenter for David Haight Construction for a number of years. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, James Leonard, Larry and Gary Wheeler.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Diane Wheeler; children, Julia Hilton and Kyle James Wheeler; step-sons, Kenneth Szlosek, Jr. and fiancee Brittney Bailey and Dustin and wife Kala Szlosek; brother, Richard Samuel Wheeler; sister and brother-in-law, Eva and Anthony White; step-mother, Edith Wheeler; grandchildren, Lacey and Brooklyn Szlosek; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at 2 p.m., from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Chan Mitchell and the Rev. David Whitener officiating. Music was by David Anderson.
Interment followed in the Liberty Hill Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor Tommy Hunt officiating. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Anthony White, Vic Payne, David White, David Davis, Steven Ralston and Riley Hedden. Honorary pallbearers were Donnie Neal, Tim Dockery, and Michael White. Full military honors were provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard.
