Gilbert Lima

Mr. Gilbert John Lima, age 95, of McCaysville, passed away June 19, 2019, in the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home in Augusta, Georgia. He was born in Providence, Rhode Island, to the late Manuel and Teresa DeSilva Lima. He served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1941 to 1945. He served on the USS Homme Richard, Boxer and Charger. He served as a police officer for many years in Rhode Island and later as Police Chief in South Pasadena, Florida. 

Survivors include his companion, Mary B. Wyble of McCaysville; and nieces, Rebecca Duchess, Kimberly Bently and Scarlet Bently. Graveside services were conducted Friday, June 21, 2019, from the Crestlawn Cemetery with the Rev. Sammy Ledford officiating. Military honors were provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard.
