May 3, 2019, a great woman, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Geraldine Porter Healy, passed away at the age of 91. Gerry was born July 9, 1927, in Cleveland, Ohio, to parents Roselyn and Robert Porter.
She graduated from Alvernia Catholic High School in Chicago, Illinois, and later attended Loyola Business School. After moving to Miami, Florida, in the early 1950s, Gerry worked in the public relations field for Dade County. She appeared on many radio and television talk shows, wrote a recurring column in Miami Magazine and was listed in the annual publication Who’s Who.
Gerry was a great wife and a loving mother. She married William Healy in 1952 and the couple had three daughters together. After leaving Miami, Florida, in 1980, the Healys moved to Blue Ridge where they enjoyed their retirement. Gerry was very social and was deeply involved in The Red Hat Ladies, The Daughters of the American Revolution and a faithful member of St. Anthony’s church for the majority of her life. She enjoyed oil painting, traveling the world, playing bridge and mahjong with friends, monthly bingo games with the Merry Makers and regularly socialized with her many friends in the mountains.
Her family and friends will always remember her as an avid storyteller, terrific cook, a devoted grandmother to her nine grandkids and eight great grandkids and an overall fun loving person.
Gerry is survived by her daughters, Maureen Wolf of Woodstock, Georgia, and Jerri Brennan of Stuart, Florida; and her sister, Maryanne Browd of Boone, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Healy; her brother, Robert Porter Jr., and her daughter, Patricia Adamack, of Woodstock, Georgia.
