Donald Frank Carlson, age 96, of Blue Ridge, passed away Monday, October 15, 2018, at his home.
Mr. Carlson was born September 9, 1922, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Walter Carlson and the late Hazel Dahl Carlson. A member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Blue Ridge, he was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Margaret Bergman Carlson.
Mr. Carlson served his county bravely during WWII, enlisting in the U.S. Army, and fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. He received a Purple Heart due to injuries taken in the war.
Donald worked for the Chicago Milwaukee Saint Paul and Pacific Railroad for all of his career. He and his wife Margaret lived in Illinois until 1996, when they moved to Georgia.
As an avid Chicago Cubs ad Bears fan, Donald enjoyed watching sports games on TV. He was greatly gratified that his beloved Cubs won a World Series during his lifetime.
Survivors include two daughters, Yvonne Robles and Lynee Phelps; his sister, Mildred Evensen; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services were private and celebrated by Pastor Jim Kroninger. Memorial contributions can be made to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Morganton, Georgia; or The North Georgia Honor Guard, American Legion McCaysville Post 248, Blue Ridge, Georgia.
