Elizabeth Ann (Bettie) Loudermilk, age 76, of Copperhill, Tennessee, passed away Feb. 18, 2017, in Blue Ridge Assisted Living and Memory Care in Blue Ridge, Georgia.
Bettie was born July 18, 1940, in Vonore, Tennessee, to parents Glenn and Evelyn Roberts Simpson. After graduating from Hiwassee College and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, she began a teaching career that spanned over 30 years, all with the Polk County school system. Nothing brought more joy to Bettie than meeting up with former students. Upon making new acquaintances, she would always first inquire as to whether or not she might have taught some of their family. More often than not, she had done so. She was a longtime member of the Ranger United Methodist Church in Murphy, North Carolina, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Bettie was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother Virginia Billings Simpson and sister Frankie Simpson.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years Clyde Henry Loudermilk of Copperhill, Tennessee; cousins, Bill and Mike Roberts of Madisonville, Tennessee, and Sandy Andorka of Texas; brothers-in-law, A.E. (Brenda) Loudermilk, Ned (Betty) Loudermilk of Copperhill, Tennessee; and one sister-in-law, Doris (Clint) Burrell of Wolf Creek, North Carolina.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, Feb. 20, 2017, at noon from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tim Lee officiating. Music was provided by Ed Vest.
Interment followed in the Crestlawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Terry Abernathy, Gary Kilpatrick, Richard Kilpatrick, Bill Roberts, Mike Roberts and Ken Price.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ranger United Methodist Church at 156 Ranger Road Murphy, North Carolina, 28906.
