Thomas Roy Mashburn, Jr., age 73, of Morganton, went to be with the Lord Monday, Feb. 20, 2017.
Mr. Mashburn was born Jan. 15, 1944, in Cherokee County, North Carolina, to the late Thomas Roy Mashburn Sr., and the late Ivalee Arp Mashburn. Tommy was a veteran, having served in the Army during Vietnam, and was an active member of Calvary Holiness Church, taking on the roles of Sunday School teacher and deacon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Greta Sue Mashburn; grandson, Steven Thomas Mashburn; and three brothers, Clifford Mashburn, Earl Mashburn and Clyde Mashburn.
Survivors include; loving wife of fifty years, Jean Nicholson Mashburn; daughter, Brenda (Bruce) Davis; two sons, Rex (Angel) Mashburn, Joe (Jennifer) Mashburn; sister, Ruth (Tommy) Townsend; two brothers Howard (Irene) Mashburn, Earl (Joyce) Mashburn and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mashburn; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Chad Mashburn officiating.
Interment followed in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. Military Honors were provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Pallbearers were David Mashburn, Bubba Janes, Jeremy Mashburn, Bruce Davis, Richard Reeves, Jason Raper, Neil Collis, Leroy Norton and Tommy Delaney. Honorary pallbearers were Danny Davis, Bradley Davis, Junior Collins, Tommy Townsend, Robert Mashburn and Wade Beavers.
