Fannin runners head for state events

Several members of the Fannin County High School Boys and Girls Track & Field teams earned the right to compete in the state playoffs with their performances at the AA Region 7 meet Monday and Tuesday, April 22 and 23.

The next stop for the athletes is the State Sectional  May 4 at Rockmart High School. Head coach Miranda Roof said, the State Sectional meet is equivalent to making it to the state playoffs. It means that these athletes are in the top 32 in the state in their event.”

The FCHS athletes who placed in the top 4 in their respective event qualified for Sectional. They are:

•Lindsey Holloway placed 1st in the 1600m Run and 1st in the 3200m Run.

•Karli Sams placed 2nd in the 1600m Run, 2nd in the 3200m Run, and 4th in the 800m Run.

•Sydney German placed 3rd in the Shot Put.

•Sydney Ford placed 4th in the 3200m Run.

•Ava Acker placed 3rd in the 800m Run.

•Airianna Galloway placed 2nd in the 400m Dash.

•Annaleigh Cheatham placed 3rd in the 400m Dash.

•Jace Sanderson placed 4th in the 400m Dash.

•Carlee Holloway placed 3rd in the 300m Hurdles.

Stephanie Kirk placed 4th in the High Jump

•The Girls 4x100m Relay Team made up of Jace Sanderson, Stephanie Kirk, Kensley Pickelsimer, and Halle Walton placed 4th.

•The Girls 4x200m Relay Team made up of Ava Acker, Airianna Galloway, Carlee Holloway, and Stephanie Kirk placed 3rd.

•The Girls 4x400m Relay Team made up of Airianna Galloway, Kensley Pickelsimer, Ava Acker, and Carlee Halloway placed 2nd.

•The Girls 4x800m Relay Team made up of Lindsey Holloway, Carlee Holloway, Ava Acker, and Karli Sams placed 1st.

•Zechariah Prater placed 1st in the 800m Run, 1st in the 1600m Run, and 1st in the 3200m Run.

•Braxton Cheatham placed 2nd in the Long Jump, 1st in the 400m Dash, and 2nd in the 200m Dash.

•Cooper Born placed 2nd in the Discus and 2nd in Shot Put.

•Isaac Watkins placed 4th in the Shot Put.

•Cohutta Brown placed 3rd in the 100m Dash.

•Lawson Sullivan placed 3rd in the 400m Dash.

•The Boys 4x200m Relay Team made up of Lawson Sullivan, Braden Taylor, Judah Wood, and Ricky Baker placed 4th.

•The Boys 4x400m Relay Team made up of Lawson Sullivan, Brodey Angel, Braxton Cheatham, and Zechariah Prater placed 1st.

•The Boys 4x800m Relay Team made up of Brodey Angel, Scotty Waldrep, Ricky Baker, Gage Bryan placed 2nd.

Roof said, “All of the coaches are extremely proud of these athletes and look forward to how they will compete at the State Sectional meet.”
