“One day, y’all are going to drive by here and know that you took part in all this.” Billy Wayne Chastain told the students of Copper Basin High School and Fannin County High School Wednesday morning, April 17.

Agriculture and FFA students from both schools gathered in the Toccoa River Park to plant beautiful flowers and plants.

The majority of the plants are perennials which means they will continue to come back each season. A few plants were annuals whose colors can be enjoyed now and can be replaced next season.

Residents and visitors of McCaysville can now visit the park and enjoy the beautiful landscaping done by these young farmers.

The flowers were voted on and sponsored by the McCaysville City Council and provided by Quinn’s Greenhouse.

Owner of Quinn’s and Copper Basin teacher, Ginger Montgomery, explained to the students what each plant was, what colors the blooms will be, and how big they grow so that the students could figure out exactly how to organize each flower bed.

Fannin teachers Rhona Matthews and Seth Davis also helped the students plan out each bed and provided instruction on planting each type of flower.

Billy Wayne Chastain noted on how amazing it was to see the young people come out and work together to create something so beautiful for the City of McCaysville.

The students worked together and got their hands dirty so that everyone can come and enjoy the scenery at McCaysville City Park.
