PUBLIC INFORMATION ...

Georgia Department of Transportation
to hold a
Public Information Open House for
P.I. Nos. 621340- & 620490-
Fannin County, GA & Polk County, TN
On Thursday, June 22, 2017 (4:00 pm to 7:00 pm) in the Gymnasium of the West Fannin Elementary School, the Georgia Department of Transportation will hold a Public Information Open House (PIOH) concerning the projects listed above. The school is located at 5060 Blue Ridge Drive.
GDOT project PI# 621340 proposes to improve State Route (SR) 5 from approximately Appalachian Highway/US 76/SR 515 to Old Flowers Road. Beginning just north of Blue Ridge, GA at Appalachian Highway/US76/SR 515, the project would widen the existing two lane roadway to four (12-foot outside and 11-foot inside) lanes with a 14-foot flush median (two-way left turn lane). Approximately just north of McCaysville Industrial Drive, the typical section of the roadway widening would transition to two 12-foot lanes with a 14-foot flush median (two-way left turn lane). At approximately Old Flowers Road, the project would transition back to the existing two lane roadway.
GDOT project # 620490 would start at approximately Old Flowers Road and end at SR 68. Starting at Old Flowers Road and ending at approximately Holly Lane, the proposed project would maintain the existing two 12-foot lane roadway with 10-foot shoulders (6.5 feet paved). From Holly Lane to Kingstown Street, the proposed project would maintain the existing two 12-foot lane roadway, add curb and gutter and construct 5-foot sidewalks on both sides of the roadway. From Kingstown Street, the project proposes to construct a new location two lane truck bypass to the west of downtown McCaysville. The proposed bypass would bridge over the Ocoee River and SR 68 before tying into SR 68 at approximately Colonial Avenue. The project proposes to make pedestrian improvements on the existing SR 5 shoulders from approximately School Street to West Tennessee Avenue.
The purpose of this PIOH is to provide the public with an opportunity to view the proposed projects, ask questions, and to provide an opportunity for the public to comment on the project.
The Open House will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. It will be informal, and the public is invited to attend anytime during these hours. There will be no formal presentation. A court reporter will be available to allow the public an opportunity to make verbal comments about the project. All information presented will be available approximately three days prior to the Open House at http://www.dot.ga.gov/PS/Public/PublicOutreach.
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Information:
The meeting site is accessible to persons with disabilities. Accommodations for people with disabilities can be arranged with advance notice by calling Cherie Marsh GDOT at 678-721-5257.
